Getting Support
There are a number of different ways you can get support with your healing. Below are some suggestions of ways you could find suppport. However we are unable to take responsibility for any of the services
you may discover or use. If something doesn't feel right, investigate it or leave, trust yourself:
Stepping Stones:
If you are an adult survivor of child sexual abuse in North or North East Wales you can contact the office and refer your self to the service. Your call will be recieved by a memebr of staff who will respect
the confidential nature of your call and will place you on a waiting list until a counsellor becomes available.
Private Counselling:
It is also possible to see a counsellor on a private basis. There are private counsellors in all areas of the country who will work with couples, families and individuals for a fee. Private counsellors tend to work
either from their homes or from rented rooms and the price varies from £10 per hour to £80+. Some counsellors base their fees on what the client can afford where as others have a set fee. There are names of counsellors in local directories and advertised in
papers. A useful way of finding a counsellor in your area is to use the Britiah Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists website where you can search for one in your area -
www.bacp.co.uk.
The website can also offer you more information and advice on choosing a counsellor, what to expect and what to look for. It is important when looking for a counsellor to be aware that different counsellors practise different types of counselling
and have different qualifications. You may wish to shop around and make sure you get the right person for you.
G.P Surgeries:
You will find that many G.P surgeries now have a counsellor working for them and can offer you some free counselling. It may be worth asking your doctor.
Mental Health Teams:
All areas have a mental health team who provided a service to those with mental health issues. Your doctor should be able to put you in touch with your local team or contact your local Social Services department.
Other voluntary organisations
:
There are other voluntary organisations across the country that offer counselling and advice for those who have survived child sexual abuse. Although we are not in a position to recommend any of them you may find out
about them through your local telephone directory, social services or your G.P.
